Daily Life

July is off to a running start…

Since I first posted about running about a month ago, I have actually kept it up. It’s been 5 weeks since my first run, but since I’ve been doing a few days of C25K on repeat, I’m now at week 4, day 1, which I completed tonight. HOLY COW. That was hard. After the 5 minute warmup, it involved a 3 minute jog, 90 second walk, 5 minute jog, 2-ish minute walk, 3 minute jog, 90 second walk, 5 minute jog, and then cool down.

O. M. G. I ran 5 minutes straight! Thought I was going to fall over and die on that last 5 minute segment but I made it. My average was 15:59/mi. I have never ever done that before in my life. I have never ran more than a minute in my life! If you would have told me 5 weeks ago that this is what I’d be doing, I would have laughed in your face! I’ve always been the most unathletic person ever and used to fake being sick or hurt to get out of PE when I was a kid. On my first day of C25K, I could barely run 30 seconds. By the end of the first week, I was able to run a minute. And now I’ve run 5 minutes without stopping. I feel so accomplished!!

Not to mention, I’ve lost a whopping 6lb from June 1st to July 1st. I feel so great and I am so proud of myself for keeping up with this. I am also thankful to have supportive family and friends who are pushing me to go further.

The thought of running 10 or 20 minutes straight is still such a crazy, ridiculous thought in my mind, but yet I want to continue to work harder to see if I can get there.

Here I am today, post-run, tired, but very happy with myself:
