Daily Life, Friends, William, Zachary

Life with my two boys.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these – William is napping and Zachary is happily playing – so I thought I’d take a few minutes to write one up. 🙂

Before William joined us in the world, I admit I was pretty worried about what life with two boys would hold for me! I’d heard horror stories from other moms about how hard things could be – and things definitely wouldn’t fall into the “easy” category when you have a newborn – but that’s normal, considering all of the feeding, spit-up, and lack of sleep! I consider our family pretty lucky, though. William has been an exceptionally easy baby, and Zachary has been an exceptionally great big brother. There’s been no jealousy or difficult adjustment period. We prepared Zachary SO well for what to expect when the baby came home that it was nearly a seamless transition. I am a little amazed at how fantastic we all did and how wonderfully he treats his baby brother.

The last few months have seen a lot of growing up on Zachary’s part. He’s learned to be very patient while we’re doing things with the baby, he’s become fantastic at playing with his toys independently, and he’s become a very, very helpful little person. He enjoys helping me out with baby-related tasks, and will even clean up his toys and put clothes in the hamper without me asking him to do so. He is very caring towards the baby and always inquires as to what he’s doing, how he’s feeling, and where he is. At night, he likes to help with bedtime and makes a point to be very quiet when he goes into the bedroom while the baby is sleeping, since the boys share a room.

Zachary is growing into a very polite and thoughtful little boy. He is smart and funny, considerate and compassionate. He still loves his iPad and his current favorite games are Dragonvale and (as always) Angry Birds. He enjoys learning about space and animals and likes playing with legos and playdoh and loves going to the park and taking bike rides with his daddy and he decided to be a pirate for Halloween this year (since he loves Jake and the Neverland Pirates on Disney Junior). He loves to sing and tell funny jokes and stories. He is very creative. His fourth birthday is next month. I can’t believe that time has gone so quickly and he is growing up so fast!

As for little Will, as far as babies go, it couldn’t get any better. I always thought that Zachary was an amazing baby – William is just as amazing! I am floored that I am SO lucky to have been blessed with two truly amazing children. William is a very happy baby and always in a wonderful mood. When he wakes up in the morning, it’s always with a smile. He is so curious and interested in everything now. At four months, he’s pre-teething, which means he is starting to put things into his mouth to explore! Zachary didn’t get any teeth until he was eight months, so I don’t expect any chompers for a while, though!

At four months old, William is growing by leaps and bounds! He is roughly the same size as Zachary at this age – about 18.5lb  and 26 inches. He’s wearing 6-12 month size clothes now. He has been very interested in our food and eating for a while now, so I’m hoping to start him on baby oatmeal in the next couple weeks. William continues to be a pretty good sleeper. He usually sleeps from about 8pm to 7:30am and typically wakes up once in the middle for a few ounces of milk, but often sleeps straight through the night, too! I know a lot of moms of four month old babies are still waking up frequently, so I count my lucky stars that I am getting a bit of sleep!

A few of my friends have wondered about the color of Will’s eyes and hair. I think his hair is turning out a bit auburn with blonde highlights, and his eyes are really beautiful. They still have a TEENY bit of baby blue in them, but not too much. They are a lovely greenish brown with brown towards the middle and green/blue on the outsides and I believe they will be a hazel color in the end.. maybe a bit similar to my own eyes which are mostly brownish green.

And in BIG news — we have hit some milestones! A few days before he turned 4 months, he rolled over for the first time from belly to back. And even bigger, two days after turning 4 months (October 20th) William said MAMA for the first time! No, I’m not dreaming – even my pediatrician heard it (on a video I recorded) at William’s four month well-visit and was totally amazed! We are so excited that our littlest baby is learning how to communicate!
