Paint the Moon Photography Tools Review & Giveaway

CONTEST CLOSED

paint the moon

Today I’m excited to bring you a review of the amazing Paint the Moon actions and textures! Annie Manning is the creative genius behind Paint the Moon. I first learned about Annie via Flickr, where I saw her gorgeous photos of her cute daughter and dapple dachshund who could have come from the same litter as my little Maya! I loved her editing & was delighted to find out about this endeavor she’s been working on!

Annie has compiled all of her creativity into her Paint the Moon Photoshop Tools website and blog, where she sells actions, textures, holiday cards, blog boards, and more. If you’re a photographer or love editing your photos to make them look more artistic, her site is one that you will want to watch, as she updates frequently with new sets and fun items. And her prices? Totally reasonable!

Annie sent me two sets to try out for this review & giveaway. The first is Tillie’s Attic, a vintage-style/urban-retro action set which she sells for only $35. I also received her Texture Collection Two set, which also costs $35. With these amazing prices, you can spend lots of time shopping at Paint the Moon, pick up some awesome tools for your artwork, and it won’t break the bank. But that’s only one great thing about her shop, and I haven’t even told you how much I like her actions and textures yet!

Upon trying out the actions, I found that they are 100% customizable! I had a big smile on my face playing around in Photoshop using this action set. With so many actions for sale these days, the layers flatten when the action finishes running. This is the most maddening thing, as I love to go back and change opacity, masking, and control the blend modes of my layers in Photoshop when I’m editing. Annie leaves all of this open to the photographer so that you can make your own changes and utilize as much or as little of her action’s full construction as you want. It really allows you to customize the way the final image looks so that you can achieve your desired final product very easily. And of course, you can layer actions on top of other actions to get an even more unique appearance (though the rule of thumb in this case is to remember not to overdo it).

I also really enjoyed using the texture set as well. I found the textures to be extremely versatile and they included a really wide variety of color casts, types of texture, and styles, and I was able to layer these as well to get my desired effect. I found some textures in the set that immediately became my favorite, and I know I will use them pretty frequently. The textures work really nicely with Annie’s actions, and I hope to try out more of her textures some time soon!

  1. Ooh, I *JUST* purchased her Essentials & Miracle Makeover bundle yesterday (darn it, missed out on the 20%, but still an unbelievable price considering how great her actions are)! I think next I would like the Coffee House Decaf for PSE.

  2. I wasn the Miracle Makeover & Essential bundle for PSE!! I love when they write actions for PSE since I can’t afford the real PS yet!
