Interview with a Photographer Mom: Tab McCausland

I met the awesome Tab McCausland, along with a wonderful group of photographer women, on a Flickr Group for Florida photographer girls which no longer exists. Tab is downright funny, amazingly talented, and filled with energy and ideas. I love that she seems to live life to the fullest and enjoys everything to the max. She is one of those people that truly experiences everything and it makes her a better person and photographer. She shoots a lot for herself, which is something that I have not done for myself enough. Tab rocks!!

How long have you been a photographer? I’ve been in business for 11 years.

What’s your favorite type of session to photograph, and why? Weddings and Boudoir – I love making women feel awesome about themselves!

What are three words that describe your photography? Modern, Fresh, Fearless

Are you a Canon or Nikon girl, and which lens is typically glued to your camera? Canon, and I love primes. 50mm is my favorite.

How do you find balance being a mom and managing your own photography business? I actually struggle with this quite a bit and try to take it a day at a time.  My husband often reminds me honey it is time to turn your computer off. 🙂

What’s your best advice for photographing your own kids? Just do it.  We get so wrapped up in ideas and concepts that we just sometimes forget to just take a simple picture of our beautiful children.

How do you stay inspired? I do inspirational shoots just for me at least once a month — just ideas I have in my head for no reason, but to shoot.

What’s your guilty pleasure? Poker. I try to play whenever I can 🙂

What’s the best thing about your job? Freedom!!
