All of my love and hope captured in a song

I don’t often repost from other blogs, but I saw a post on my new online friend Michelle’s blog, In Our Own Words, (she also happens to be local!) and I couldn’t help putting the video she shared here on my site too because it really struck me, especially after the post I made last night about capturing special moments with my baby.

This is a YouTube video of a couple of Dixie Chicks songs (so if you’re reading this in an email subscription or an RSS feed, please click here to pop out and watch it. I have always liked the Dixie Chicks – their lyrics are SO good and never fail to disappoint me. I don’t really know why I never listened to them more often, or why I’ve never heard this song before — but it’s AMAZING.

The song is called “Godspeed” and it’s about a mother tucking her little boy into bed at night and telling him how much she loves him as he falls asleep. The song perfectly captures all of the love and hopes a mom has for her child as she tucks her baby in at night and watches him or her sweetly fall asleep — the hopes and dreams that you don’t know your own parents had for you until you become a parent yourself.

I love these lyrics in particular:

The rocket racer’s all tuckered out
Superman’s in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, will find the mouse
And I love you
Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

Beautiful, huh? Please take a few minutes during your day today and watch the video. To make the video even better (and pull at your heartstrings even more), the song that follows “Godspeed” is the Chicks’ cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” — which, in my opinion, is probably the best song ever written.

And don’t forget to visit Michelle’s blog too!
